This week is Fire Prevention Week!

The history of Fire Prevention Week has its roots in the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871, but continued into and did the most damage on October 9, 1871. In just 27 hours, this tragic fire killed 300 people, left 90,00 residents homeless, and destroyed more than 17,400 structures.

On the 40th anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire, the Fire Marshals Association of North America decided that the date of this occurrence should be observed in a way that would keep the public informed about the importance of fire prevention. In 1920, President Woodrow Wilson issued the first National Fire Prevention Day proclamation. Every year since 1922, National Fire Prevention Week has been observed on the Sunday-through-Saturday period in which October 8 falls.

The Glen Moore Fire Company is proud to participate in events that stress fire prevention. On Tuesday 10/9 the volunteers will be at the Springton Manor Elementary School to give fire prevention presentations to the students.

Then, on Wednesday evening (10/10/2018), the company will host its annual Open House at the fire station from 6p-9p. Please stop by and check us out!
