Crews gathered on Wednesday evening for their weekly training. This week's focus was on drafting operations from a dry hydrant. A new dry hydrant pipe was installed on Springton Road to draft water from the creek.
Given that this was a new connection, crews set up to ensure that the pipe was operational, and that water could be drafted from the creek. Scenarios like this provide valuable learning opportunities. Firefighters can practice making the necessary connections and drivers can practice drafting. Establishing water supply from dry hydrants and creeks is critical in areas that are not serviced by fire hydrants. Crews successfully established a water supply and were able to flow water.
