On Wednesday, the crews were kept busy with multiple calls during the storm. Crews were dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at the elementary school that was triggered by a power outage. Crews also responded to multiple calls for downed wires. In between these calls, GMFC was dispatched to assist Station 49 (East Brandywine Fire Company) with a house fire. GMFC made the response but were recalled while enroute. The fire police were also kept busy by closing roads due to downed trees and wires.
Later that evening, the members gathered for their weekly training. The focus was on radio communications. Radio communications are vital to any emergency operation. Firefighters need to remain in contact with each other as well as with the command post. Members of the command post need to be able to relay information to the firefighters as well the county fireboard. Crews practiced different scenarios requiring them to communicate with other by radio while performing a task.
