| On Friday, February 3rd, 2012 the Glen Moore Fire Company received notification from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that we were selected to receive a federal grant through the Assistance to Firefighter's Grant Program.
The Grant, in the amount of $34,100, will allow the fire company to purchase new fire hose for fire suppression, water supply, and nozzles for firefighting.
The hose on our 1992 Pumper-Tanker and our 2001 Attack Unit is approaching 20 years of age. Likewise, the supply hose on our Pumper is approaching 20 years of age. The National Fire Protection Association, an advocate for fire prevention and public safety, recommends fire departments give careful consideration to fire hose with a service life of ten years.
As you can see the hose is well beyond the expected service life span. With limited funding to replace the hose, alternate means of funding had to be sought. With the Assistance to Firefighter's Grant Award, we have alleviated the funding need and risk of future injury to our firefighting personnel.
The fire company is obligated to provide 5% fund matching in the amount of $1705 before we will receive our share which is $32395. This is our second AFG in three years.
Thank you to John Sly Grant writing for both grant awards! |
