On July 4th the GMFC Volunteers assisted the Downingtown FD through out the festivities of the annual Good Neighbor Day. QRS48 assisted in the morning by standing by with a crew for the 5K run in case any runner or spectator needed medical assistance. Later on in the morning RES48 with a crew of 5 stood by at Rte 322 and Harmony Hill Rd (at the covered bridge) for the canoe race. The crew stood along the Brandywine River with water rescue equipment in case any of the canoeist needed any type of assistance. The GMFC volunteers also cheered on all the canoeist as the passed by, giving them some encouragement as they traversed the 4 mile ride. Also making the voyage was the G4 Canoe 48 piloted by Lt Paul DeCarlo. In the evening the volunteers mounted up again and manned ENG485 and SQD48, standing by at station 46 for the fireworks show. Standing by also with the GMFC volunteers was the West Bradford FD (station 39). We would like to thank the Downingtown FD for the invite to participate in this years July 4th activities.
