On Wednesday, November 4th at 15:00, Station 48 was dispatched to Devereux Road for a reported brush fire. Brush 48 arrived on the scene within minutes and found a 100'x50' area of corn field on fire. The fire appeared to have started due to a mechanical issue in a nearby combine harvester and was spreading rapdily due to dry and windy weather conditions. Brush 48 began to extinguish the fire and requested additional brush units from nearby companies.
As additional units arrived on scene, they assisted with extinguishment and water supply. The fire was placed under control at 15:50. Station 48 and mutual aid companies successfully held the fire to one acre, saving approximately 5 additional acres of field, an industrial property, and a local farm and animal sanctuary.
