Current Watch Desk Report - Hurricane Sandy

By The Watch Desk
October 29, 2012

We are currently in the "Calm before the Storm" phase of Hurricane Sandy. Currently light to moderate rain with light to moderate wind gusts are being reported in the district. Please note that nothing has really changed from our last report in terms of increasing rain and wind this afternoon with dangerous wind gusts beginning around midnight and continuing into Tuesday.

We are urging people to stay off the roadways if at all possible and asking no one to be driving after dark tonight. There are a number of leaves down on the already slick roads from the rain. Also at night it is tough to deifier flooded roadways. Conditions are expected to become much worse beginning after 2pm today.

Power Outages are very probable as we get into the late afternoon and evening. Several areas in Chester County have already reported outages. Please contact PECO at 1-800-841-4141 to report an outage or electrical issue. Please contact PPL at 1-800-342-5775 to report an outage if in that area. Please treat all downed wires as energized and do not come in contact with them!

Below is the Link to the PECO Outage Map…

For other non-emergencies please contact the Chester County Emergency Operations Center at 610-344-5000. Please use 911 only for true Life Safety Emergencies.

Currently all rivers, dams, and lakes are at normal levels in the district. No reported road closures at this point. The turnpike which runs through a portion of the district has restricted speed limits to 45 MPH. Please remember that a shelter of last resort is available at Lionville Middle School on WEST Uwchlan Avenue in Lionville (Exton, PA GPS).

The Glen Moore Fire Company is prepared to respond if and when called upon for service. Remember that over 50% of the calls we run are preventable accidents and incidents. Please don't become a statistic.
