Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By The Watch Desk
October 30, 2012

The State of Emergency for Wallace Township was lifted this afternoon. Motorists are being urged to drive safely due to leaves, debris, and potential for wires on the roadway. Conditions are still poor on many of the secondary roadways and some remain closed awaiting Power Company responses.

These include;
West Nantmeal
3100 Block of Creek Road between Lewis Mill and Chestnut Tree
Pumpkin Hill Road between Rose Point and Green Hollow Lane.

Wallace
No reported Closures
Special Thanks to the Wallace Road Crew for working around the clock to assist the Fire Department on clearing roadways and making it possible to get to several overnight calls. At one point they had 7 road closures in the township to contend with.

East Nantmeal
No reported Closures

Upper Uwchlan
No reported Closures

Power Outages are present in each of the 4 townships. Please contact PPL or PECO to report an outage or for updates.

Downingtown School District is reporting that school will resume tomorrow at normal times pending no overnight issues. Please check the school district website for additional details. No reports were available for Twin Valley, Owen J. Roberts, or Coatesville at the moment.

Thank You to the residents for Sheltering in Place at the height of the storm. This made it much easier for crews to do our jobs and eliminated automobile accidents which are normally our highest percentage of calls. I am happy to report that we did not have one auto accident during the last 48 hours!

A special THANK YOU to all of the crews, Township Supervisors, and the Road Crews that were heavily involved in preparations, planning, logistics, and operations throughout the event. Special Thanks to Wallace Supervisors Barb D'Angelo, Bill Moore, and Rob Jones for your active involvement in the Storm Preparation and Emergnecy Operations Plan.

GMFC Crews responded to 11 Emergencies Total and numerous Non-emergency calls over the past 36 hours. We had an average of 12 volunteers per call. We are discontinuing the Watch Desk and Staffed Stations now that we have went 4 hours without any emergencies. Again, volunteers are ALWAYS on call 24x7x365 to lend a helping hand!
